Mark Nepple is named Manager of the Year

Congratulations to Mark Nepple for being named Manager of the Year for Bomgaars, a Sioux City-based chain of 59 stores.  Mark received this award  "in recognition of both the financial growth of the store and his personal growth as a manager."

Mark served on the Chamber Board of Directors from January 2007 thru December 2009.  Having worked with Mark, none of us are surprised at his receiving this award.

Rock & Ride 2010

The Carroll Cycle Center will host Rock & Ride 2010 on Saturday, June 5th. Bands will be playing from 1:00 - 10:00 pm ($5 cover charge). The store will be open from 8:00 am - 7:00 pm; there will be demos and other activities. The Carroll Chamber of Commerce will run the Beer Garden from 12:00 - 11:00 pm. The Chamber appreciates the opportunity to be involved with this fundraiser as proceeds will be used for projects. Thank you Terry.

NJCAA Region XI Baseball Tournament - Thank You!

Iowa Central Community College defeated Ellsworth Community College 12-6 to claim the NJCAA Region XI Championship. The weekend was filled with great weather and fantastic baseball. NJCAA Region XI Baseball - Championship Game

Iowa Central Community College defeated Southeastern Community College 6-4 to advance to the NJCAA Region XI Championship Game. Iowa Central will face Ellsworth at 2:00 PM today. If Iowa Central wins, the tournament is over. If Ellsworth wins, we will be coming back tomorrow (Monday) to play the double-elimination championship game at 11:00 AM.

Championship Day, Maybe...

The end is in sight for NJCAA Region XI Baseball Tournament at Carroll Stadium. Only 3 teams remain in the tournament: Iowa Central, Southeastern, and Ellsworth. The pressure is on Iowa Central to remain undefeated in the tournament and take the trophy home today. The double-elimination tournament has the potential to go until Monday if Iowa Central gets a loss. To see the tournament bracket and other information, you can go to www.iccac.org.

The rumors of rain today are starting to look more and more false. The sun is shining and the first game of the day has started off with some big home runs and great defensive plays. Come join the fun!!

First Pitch of 2010 NJCAA Region XI Baseball Tournament


The sun is finally shining and the first pitch of the 2010 NJCAA Region XI Baseball Tournament has been thrown! Iowa Lakes is taking on Kirkwood for the right to enter the double-elimination bracket. Come on out and enjoy the beautiful evening at the Carroll Stadium as we kick off an action-packed weekend of junior college baseball!!!

The Iowa Community College's DII Baseball Regional Tournament is heading back to Carroll for the second consecutive year! After a great inaugural tournament, the ICCAC can't wait to see what is instore for them, the fans, and the town in 2010. The tournament dates are May 13th-17th.  There will be 11 games played over the weekend and tickets are just $7.00 for an all day pass for adults and $4.00 for students. National Small Business Week May 23-25

Every year since 1963, the President of the United States has proclaimed National Small Business Week to recognize the contributions of small businesses to the economic well-being of America.

The Carroll Chamber of Commerce recognizes the impact made by entrepreneurs and small businesses within the area and want to say thank you for your contributions to the strength of the area economy.  Small businesses do make a difference and you should all be proud of the community you have helped to build.

Smart Economic Development Conference

Cindy Ranniger and Sue Schrad from the Carroll Chamber/CADC along with Carroll Mayor Jim Pedelty; Manning Mayor Harvey Dales; Marion Burns, MidAmerican Energy Company; and Larry Sporrer, Templeton Area Development Corp. attended the 25th Annual Smart Economic Development Conference in Des Moines yesterday (Thursday, May 6).  The day consisted of a robust line-up of top-notch speakers.  Keynote speaker Brent Pollina shared information on site selection and state and local incentives.  He shared statistics on Iowa's ranking for attracting business and industry to the state.  Workshops ranged from: financing options, workforce, branding, spec building, social media and much more.  It was a very good day, with many ideas being brought back to Carroll County communities.

Carroll Chamber of Commerce Legislative Forum Wrap up

The final Chamber of Commerce Legislative Forum of the season was held at Des Moines Area Community College in Carroll Tuesday evening, May 4 at 7 p.m. State Senator Steve Kettering and State Representative Rod Roberts spoke to a 30+ crowd on the issues of government reorganization, gun permits and texting.
 Both legislators felt the session went rather smoothly with both Democrats and Republicans working relatively well together. Education funding was a topic of particular interest along with how Iowa will handle spending problems next year.

Carroll Chamber of Commerce House District #51 Candidate Forum

Carroll Chamber of Commerce was host to the District House #51 Candidate Forum, Monday evening, May 3, at 7 p.m. at the Gene Vincent Auditorium Carroll High School. Candidates Larry Lesle (D), Don Bernholtz (R), Joel Pawletzki (R) and Dan Dirkx (R) opened the evening addressing their single important issue facing the district and their resolution.
A crowd of 50+ listened as candidates answered questions provided by the public both in advance and during the forum. The forum was simulcast on KCIM 1380 AM radio station.
