Phase 5 of Corridor Construction to begin Monday

Traffic flows on Hwy 30 During Corridor Construction
Architect's Drawing of Main St. and Hwy 30
Phase 5 of the Corridor of Commerce is scheduled to begin construction Monday, July 26.

Corridor of Commerce improvements have been an exciting addition to the visual appeal of the Central Business District. The City’s use of Local Option Sales Tax funds to enhance the streetscape in this area has led to private investment to properties that keep Carroll’s downtown vibrant, attracting customers from a wide area.

Communication is the key to making the construction period run as smooth as possible for affected businesses. Badding Construction will be doing the work on Hwy 30 this summer and asked the Chamber to relay important project information during this period. An explanation of the project is below. From time to time throughout Phase 5 additional communication from the Chamber and Badding Construction about the project will appear on the Chamber Blog.

Project Description
The project will start Monday with the closure of the two east-bound lanes from Carroll Street to Main Street. The two west-bound lanes will be converted to single lane, two-way traffic. There will not be a detour of Highway 30.

New brick inlaid intersections will be installed at the intersection of Highway 30 and Carroll, Adams and Main Street. Each of the intersections will be worked on one at a time and will be closed for approximately three weeks on two separate occasions; once during the south phase of the project and once during the north phase. Carroll Street will be the first intersection, followed by Adams Street and then Main Street. Once the south phase is completed the traffic will be diverted to the south lanes and the north phase will start.

Every Local Business Can be Stung by Social Media

Be Careful with Social Media - from IowaBiz.com

I got alot out of this article and think you will too. It is in IowaBiz, an online publication of the Des Moines Business Record. It is a useful source for statewide news (though I haven't been able to crack their code for submitting news about Carroll or Carroll County).

Of course, the main message here is, "provide good customer service". Social media is a powerful marketing tool for your business and for our communities. It is important to track your social media mentions even if you don't have a presence. There are a number of ways to do this. One of the most popular is Google Alerts - email updates of the latest relevant Google results (web, news, etc.) based on your choice of query or topic. I use them for the Chamber, Carroll Area Development Corporation and Carroll County communities. Your business could benefit from this sort of tracking. You could learn what customers are saying about you.
